Janitorial Services for Dialysis Centers

Janitorial Services for Dialysis Centers

Dialysis centers are a necessity for millions of Americans who suffer from kidney failure and other kidney diseases. As a necessity for so many people, the few local dialysis centers in any given area tend to become very busy. Several very important aspects of cleaning dialysis facilities will be listed and expanded upon below.

1- Floor Cleaning

Medical facilities are held to the highest standards in terms of cleanliness and safety for their patients. Hard surface floors in the procedure areas are subject to heavy foot traffic, scuffs from chairs and machines being rolled around, blood, and other fluid falling to the floor. All of these things damage, and dull hard surface floors causing them to look dirtier and less safe than they are.

A combination of daily sweeping, mopping, and floor scrubbing help return life to hard surface floors after a long day of use. In addition to daily cleaning, regularly scheduled strip and waxes will restore floors to their original state in addition to daily cleaning. Keeping well-maintained floors not only makes a facility look much better but also keeps facilities safer as dulled and dirtied floors are more likely to present tripping and slipping hazards

2- Bicarb Cleanup

Bicarbonate is a product of the dialysis process. Bicarbonate occasionally leaks onto the floor underneath the dialysis machine and chairs. This dries into a hard crystalline residue on the floor. This residue isn't able to be cleaned up with typical floor cleaning chemicals and easily spreads, quickly making large sections of flooring sticky. One way to clean up this substance is by treating it with white vinegar and allowing the vinegar to dissolve it. You can then mop up the vinegar and continue with your floor scrubber. It's important to note, you should use a separate mop head to mop up the vinegar and bicarb.

3- Wiping down Sinks and Counters

Making sure all of your patient-facing surfaces are clean and disinfected is critical for providing safe and sanitary care for your patients. Wiping down all sinks and counters in the operation area is a critical daily task that helps keep dialysis facilities clean and safe each day.

4- Biohazard waste removal

Medical facilities have special procedures for discarding biohazard waste. Any disposable part of the dialysis process is discarded into a specially designated biohazard waste bin. These bins are typically red with the biohazard sign and the words biohazard waste in large font. These bags need to be replaced daily and moved to a secure location where there's no potential for them to contaminate the facility.

5- Bed Bug Cleaning

Bed bugs are nasty pests that always seem to pop up in places with large amounts of human traffic. Bed bugs are brought into facilities via patients' belongings and will infest the patient's chairs and other furniture they come into contact with. Bed bug cleaning begins by identifying that a chair has been infested and proceeding to isolate that piece of equipment to be cleaned later. The next step is to fully vacuum the chair making sure to vacuum every part of the extended armrest and footrests. Next, you'll need to spray down the entire chair with a disinfectant cleaner allowing it to dry. Then you'll spray and wipe down the entire chair using disinfectant and paper towels. Finally, remove the bag from the vacuum, place it with the paper towels in a new trash bag, and tie it off. From there you can discard that trash bag normally. The most important step is identifying the infestation and isolating it before the bed bug can spread creating a much larger, and harder-to-deal-with, infestation.
